Enjoy Hotel Sonya
I stayed at this hotel for three days in October. Actually, my room was in their annexe, Sonya Suites, 100m down via Firenze beside the Opera House. The hotel clerk carried my suitcase and escorted me to the building and up to my room. It was a lovely, clean, decent sized room (by European standards) and was air-conditioned.
The bathroom was well appointed and very clean. It also included a bidet. Now, being non-European, I`ve never used a bidet and don`t see the need to have one in a bathroom. It was actually very awkward to get in and out of the shower with the bidet there. A bidet is obviously a European affectation that I just don`t understand.
My breakfast room was on the ground floor of the Sonya Suites. The fare was plentiful and delicious and the staff were very polite and attentive. I often had lunch and dinner at the restaurant 50m down via Firenze – Ristorante Esperia. It had great food and service.
The main hotel reception on via del Viminale had free internet access for guests which was great for me as I hadn`t been able to access my emails for some time.
The location was brilliant. The Repubblica metro station was 2 blocks away. As was the Palazzo Massimo Alle Terme, a very impressive museum. Roma Termini was probably only 800m away. The Sonya Suites are beside the Opera House down via Firenze and on my first evening, when I opened my window, I could hear the divas practising their singing. Too cool.
The staff spoke English and were always helpful. They also have an airport shuttle service for a reasonable fee. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.
